Manuel Vicente has been named CEO of Sonangol for another term. State news agency Angop quoted a government statement saying the decision to reappoint Vicente had been made at a cabinet meeting.
Rumors abounded in September that Vicente had been tagged for the role of president however, this extension of his stay at the state-run oil company somewhat quashes that speculation as does current president Jose Eduardo dos Santos’ hint in November that he would lead his party, the MPLA, in a re-election bid.
While Vicente is tagged to run Sonangol for another three-year term, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that his term could not be cut short.
