Sub-Saharan Africa a promising place for oil business

The recently concluded 4th Annual Sub-Saharan Africa Oil & Gas Conference, 2011 had the  active participation of the following companies: Afren plc, Tullow Oil, Schlumberger, WesternGeco, Chevron, African Development Bank, JW Renaissance, TGSNopec, TDGeo, Fortesa, African Drilling, GeoExpert, MISOL Solutions Technology, MEPS – First Oil, Ryder Scott & Company,  Upstream Engineering, Petroleum Africa, Hart Energy, Divcon Engineering, W.L. Gore & Associates, CoHydro of Congo, Petrosen, AUREP  Mali, Ministry of Hydrocarbon Congo, SOCOSS Global, Eurasia Group and many others.

 In his keynote presentation, Egbert Imomoh the Chairman of Afren plc, gave an impressive outlook on growing a small E & P company in small but significant steps, with a case study on Afren.  In the same vein, Tim O’Hanlon the Vice President of African Business, Tullow Oil in his presentation showcased Tullow’s metoric rise as a thoroughly African success story. While Dr Keith Milheim of MEPS – First Oil through his work unveiled new technologies in coil tubing intervention in deepwater completion without using modules. Dr. Onyewuenyi gave a master stroke in accelerating the development of marginal oil and gas fields in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 The first day session panel was on issues and challenges in exploration ventures for medium/small cap companies.  It was a great show of experience in the session moderated by Egbert Imomoh, with the following participants: Tim O’Hanlon, Vice President African Business, Beall Rogers – the chairman of African Fortesa; Bill Brambaugh- Director at SODI International and Jim Spear – the Vice President Exploration Technology at TDGeo.  The second day panel session hinged on innovative technology as an imperative for optimization in Sub-Saharan Africa E & P activities. The session which was moderator by Dr. Oliver Onyewuenyi – the CEO of MISOL Technology Solution had the participation of experienced industry hands such as: Sola Oyinlola – the Chairman of Schlumberger Africa, Mark Miyaoka  - the CEO of TDGeo, Peter Lovie – Executive vice President of SOCOSS Global and Dr. Keith Milheim – the Managing Director of MEPS – First Oil.

 At the end of the day, participants agreed that Sub-Saharan Africa is a promising place for the oil and gas business with great expectations for growth. With a high degree of optimism, all look forward to the 5th Annual Sub-Saharan Africa Oil & Gas Conference which has been scheduled to take place from April 26 – 27, 2012 at the InterContinental Hotel, Houston.
