Mozambique to announce licensing round this October

President Amando Guebuza of Mozambique

The government of Mozambique is assiduously working towards announcing on 23rd of October the upcoming licensing round in the country.  The bidding and licensing of the available acreages will be done on January 2015 at Maputo. The massive discoveries of gas at Rovuma Basin  made Mozambique center of attraction for gas projects. The forth coming licensing round is expected to have the participation of major and independent oil companies. The great success of Anadarko, Eni, Statoil and Tullow changed the business landscape and made Mozambique to be the beautiful bride of Southern Africa.

According to Adi Karev, the global oil and gas leader at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, the recent huge discoveries of gas offshore Mozambique are significant due to the large size of the reserves and also because of the country’s proximity to the markets in Asia.

The short time between when the government of Mozambique will announce the upcoming round and the month of January 2015 when the bidding and licensing will take place warrants that companies that are interested to participate in the licensing round must walk round the clock to meet  official deadline.
